The cottage sits 1000 feet above sea level on the hillside rising up to Winsford Hill. It has magnificent views of the Barle Valley, sweeping down to Dulverton and beyond with the Brendon Hills in the distance.
The cottage can be found on Draydon Lane and is a converted barn, part of a complex of converted farm buildings. It has one large masterbedroom and a smaller second bedroom with up two beds. Draydon Lane is a cul-de-sac about a mile long - but it leads to a bridlepath which allows you to walk all the way to Tarr Steps. The walk down to Tarr Steps from the cottage is about an hour.
There is a large
combined living area and kitchen under the magnificent barn roof.
There is an open outdoor area in front of the cottage with parking space and a garden table. 100 yards further down the road, Draydon Lane, is an enclosed, shared garden area with picnic tables and even more awe-inspiring views of the Barle Valley.
We are a family who have lived in this area for generations but, sadly, sold our last farm a few years ago. The cottage has many memorabilia and pictures of those lovely farmhouses. At The Shippen we have neighbours who let Exmoor ponies and red deer roam in their fields while freerange chickens and wild pheasants can be found in abundance on the roads.
Take care approaching the cottage as Marsh Hill, the road leading up to Draydon Lane, can be very narrow in parts - and is single-track for distances, especially if you approach down hill from Winsford Hill.
